I guess since I started the thread (kinda) then I should be the one to =
agree with you, Sandy, and ask all RADSAFE folks to just let this thread =
die. It just galls me though the major thing standing in the way of our =
getting our collective act together energy-wise in this country is the =
unfounded fear that many in the general public have of all things =
"nuclear" or "atomic" ... fueled by a small but extremely vocal minority =
proclaiming that the sky is falling. I am in now way ashamed of my chosen =
profession ... quite the contrary.
Seems to me though, as an aside, that this is somewhat akin to the topic a =
while back regarding changing the name of the Health Physics Society to =
something more descriptive, like the Radiation Protection Society ... not =
that I'm taking a position one way or the other, nor do I want to crank =
THAT thread up again.=20
I guess the fundamental question then is, how does the nuclear industry =
(and I'm talking here strictly about power production, not nuclear =
medicine, or industrial applications) gain )or is it re-gain?) the =
confidence of a sufficiently large portion of the population that =
politicians aren't afraid that they'll be committing political suicide if =
they support the construction of new nuclear generation capacity?

IMHO this thread should end.
It's bad enough that there are many on this listserver who aren't=20
willing to identify themselves, unwilling to stand behind their own=20
statements. Now we have a thread (where some is only sated in=20
humor) who aren't willing to stand behind the profession they=20
chose. Are some (not all) so naive to really believe that by simply=20
changing a name, all is going to be well? Are those opposed to=20
anything related to the nuclear option going to simply stand by and=20
not react. If they did, I for one would support them.=20
Enough of this rhetoric and thread.
