For Radsafe and Powernet general interest:
AB 63 XX authorizes the California Department of Water Resources to
build a nuclear power plant of at least 640 MW. Hearings will be
held on this bill on Monday, June 25 (NEXT week). If you want to
send any letters of support to your legislators, please hurry.
Tom Remick
Treasurer, Los Angeles Section of the American Nuclear Society
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
AB 63, as introduced, Leonard. Nuclear-fueled powerplant.
Existing law authorizes the Department of Water Resources to
construct and maintain the state water project, which includes
hydroelectric facilities.
This bill would, to the extent permitted by federal law, authorize
the department to acquire property, construct, finance, own, and
operate a nuclear-fueled powerplant with a generating capacity of not
less than 640 megawatts for the purpose of operating the Edmonston
Pumping Plant. The bill would require that any excess electric power
generated by a nuclear-fueled powerplant authorized by the bill, but
that is not used to power the state water project, be sold by the
department to the state power grid.
The bill would authorize the issuance of up to $_____ in revenue
bonds for the purposes of the bill. The bill would require that the
proceeds of the sale of revenue bonds issued for the purposes of the
bill be deposited in the Nuclear-Fueled Powerplant Construction Fund,
which the bill would create, and would require that those funds be
used for the construction of a nuclear-fueled powerplant.
