Re: UCS on spent fuel security

Petr Beckmann used to call them the "Union of Confused Scientists." That's how I always think of them, but you're right that we shouldn't concede the term scientist so easily.

Caution:  slightly off-topic rant follows, but just this once.

I am ever so reassured that in time of national terrorist attacks involving suicide bombers causing skyscrapers to collapse (thereby killing thousands at one go) and anthrax spores sent through the US mails, the Union of "Concerned Scientists" has time to publish a report about an airliner crashing into a nuclear plant fuel pool.  Hasn't it ever occurred to these self-designated "scientists" that if the terrorists had thought a spent fuel pool a worthwhile target they would have gone for a spent fuel pool. and not the World Trade Center or the Pentagon?  If they are such hot-shot "scientists" where is their information on anthrax?  The local newspaper here is doing a good job providing that information, but they don't even pretend to be scientists.

The organization should change its name to "Union of Concerned Anti-Nuke Propagandists."
