UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAMPSHIRE - RADIATION SAFETY OFFICER
Office of Environmental Health and Safety
Organize and administer the radiation safety program for UNH through
oversight of all radiological safety issues to assure compliance with
regulations and policies covering the use of radioactive materials and
radiation machines.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitor and survey all areas where radioactive materials
and machines are used. Research State of New Hampshire regulations, act as
campus liaison, and provide assistance to users of radioactvie materials to
meet regulatory requirements. Inventory and leak test all sealed sources.
Oversee the personnel dosimetry monitoring program and exposure
recordkeeping program. Review proposed new uses of radioactive materials
with recommendations to the campus Radiation Safety Committee. Conduct
radiation safety training programs for users and support staff. Oversee
ordering, receipt, and delivery of radioactive materials. Update campus
radiation safety manual. Coordinate disposal of radioactive waste in
conjunction with the campus hazardous waste management program. Investigate
and respond to incidents involving radioactive materials on campus.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty and
staff and interact with appropriate regulatory agency.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in the physical or biological
sciences or related field and three years of related professional
experience. Experience in managing a university radiation safety program
preferred. Professional certification in Health Physics preferred. Knowledge
of applicable state laws, regulations, codes and guidelines as related to
program area. Ability to work effectively with faculty, administrative staff
and students under dynamic conditions. Computer literacy with software
systems, spreadsheets and database management systems. Willingness to
respond after hours for emergency response. Valid NH drivers license. Must
be able to wear and use protective equipment as necessary. Sufficient
strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of
program. SALARY INFORMATION: $38,260-$58,800. Starting salary not normally
to exceed $43,400.
