Re: Book choices for laypersons?



If you are a scientifically literate layperson, I recommend "Atoms,

Radiation, and Radiation Protection" by James E. Turner.  It starts

with  the scientific underpinnings of the field and has numerous

problems of graduated difficulty at the end of each chapter.  The second

edition was being written when I took Dr. Turner's HP courses, so its

publication date should be about 1995.
