Re: German activists to block resumed nuke transports
"The transports have pitted the government coalition of Social
Democrats and anti-nuclear Greens against grassroots activists..."
Actually they may be more than just grassroots activists:
--RIGHT-WING NEO-NAZI GROUPS WILL JOIN LEFTIST ANARCHISTS WHEN A
PENDING transport of waste is shipped from France to the interim
storage facility at Gorleben later this month. Criminal investigators
in the state of Lower Saxony reported that Neo-Nazi leaders have called
on their faithful to join the mass demonstration against the
transports, claiming that "environmental protection is the same as
protecting the (German) motherland." Last week, federal crime agencies
said that leftist anarchist groups in Berlin were getting organized to
march on Gorleben later this month. At issue is a pending shipment of
reprocessing waste from German spent fuel in France which has been
scheduled to be returned to Germany since 1997. While leftist groups
have been active in violent clashes with police during nuclear
transports to Gorleben since 1993, this is the first time that
right-wing extremists have likewise prepared to demonstrate, police
said.
