The Environmental Evaluation Group (EEG) is searching for an innovative

Health Physicist to join the Team at EEG.  EEG has an opening for a Health

Physicist II to work on issues associated with the Waste Isolation Pilot

Plant (WIPP).



POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT



The position is in Albuquerque, New Mexico with occasional travel to

Carlsbad, New Mexico and the nearby WIPP Site, and waste generator/storage

sites.  The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing DOE's

activities at the WIPP site as related to health physics and operational

safety.  Publish results of analysis as EEG reports, peer review articles,

and letters to the appropriate agencies.  Participate in efforts to continue

to improve EEG's monitoring and radioanalytical capabilities.  Monitor

audits at the various waste generator/storage sites.  Identify activities

appropriate to EEG's mission and work in consultation with EEG's Director

and staff.  Review safety analysis hazard assessment, waste acceptance

criteria, mixed waste permit modifications, operational readiness review,

and other WIPP documentation.  Comment on and/or edits EEG letters, reports,

and publications.



The minimum requirements are as follows:



Must have a Masters Degree in Health Physics, Radiological Health, Nuclear

Engineering, Environmental or Radiological Engineering.  At least two years

of standard operational health physics, radiation protection, radiation

dosage estimates, environmental pathway studies, and mixed and radioactive

waste disposal.  Must be knowledgeable of appropriate radiation protection

regulations and standards and their applicability, and operational health

physics.  The successful candidate must have excellent written and oral

skills, to publish technical reports and present technical presentations.

Must be able to monitor audits at the waste generator/storage sites and

conduct inspections in the WIPP underground wearing the appropriate safety

equipment.  Must be able to carry equipment necessary for the job.  Must

have demonstrated ability to work independently.



Additional desired qualifications are:



Certification by the American Board of Health Physics, Ph.D. in Health

Physics, Radiological Health, Nuclear Engineering, Physics or closely

related field.



Salary range is between $61,749.00 and $87,564.00.  This is equivalent to GS

13/1 to GS 14/7.  Salary is dependent upon qualifications of the candidate.
