RE: Y-90

Jack,

Sr-90 decays by a pure beta emission to Y-90 at the ground state which decays by a pure beta emission with a 64 hour half-life.  I can assure you that from analyzing numerous of multi-curie samples which contain Sr-90, there are no detectable gamma-rays emitted, other than from bremmstrahlung.

Y-90m is produced by irradiation of stable Y, which is comprised of Y-89.  Y-90m has a few easily detectable gamma-rays and has a half-life of 3.19 hours.  I can also assure you that the gamma-rays of Y-90m are readily detectable.

Brian Keele.
