RE: President Bush's Yucca Mountain Decision

John, Bernie,

Unfortunately, as discussed previously, these poor decisions are more likely to make nuclear power nonviable for a decade, all to create a long term unnecessary conflict that solely founded on reinforcing radiation fear-mongering to successfully defraud more $100 Billions from the public into the political/bureaucratic/corporate coffers. Who can rationally justify an energy source/industry that "requires" such political, institutional, and financial resources, with such great public hazard!? The cost alone makes "alternative energy" (with substantial government subsidy - a further but lesser defrauding of the public for political/corporate) "competitive."

To meet 4 mrem/year (in a background that varies from 80 to 40,000 mrem/year with n o adverse effects)!?

Of course, nuclear power will survive, because it is intrinsically an imperative of the developing world, but not to be "soon," and at massive cost to the poor and "powerless" while fat bureaucrats, politicians, and corporations "succeed" by living on feeding somewhat less-fat salaries to technocrats-scientists, lawyers, PR firms, lawyers, paper mill operators, lawyers, travel agents and hotel staff, lawyers, and a few engineers/HPs (and lawyers)!? And don't ignore the critically important anti's and social scientists to be rewarded for keeping the pot boiling for the benefit of the DOE, industry, politicians and lawyers! (Should we include the police and National Guard that will also benefit and keep the pot boiling over the next decade protecting against "mobile Chernobyl" accidents?)

Regards, Jim

The White House phone number is (202) 456-1414, extension 1. Currently, thousands of calls opposing Yucca Mountain are flooding the White House.

The passage of the Yucca Mountain decision this year is vital if the nuclear industry wants a long-term future in this country.
