1) Uzbeks invent medicine from tortoises to give immunity against radiation 

Uzbek Biochemical Researchers Have Developed A Medicine For Increasing Human

Immunity Against Radiation (From blood of Russian of Testudo horsfieldi

tortoise) 

Uzbek Television first channel, Tashkent, in Uzbek 2/18/02 

"As a result of many years of research, specialists at the Uzbek Academy of

Sciences' Institute of Biochemistry managed to extract from the blood of the

Central Asian tortoise powerful substances used to increase human immunity

against radiation," the television report said. 

The compound can be used in nuclear emergencies and to reduce the radiation

level of cancer patients undergoing treatment that involves exposure to

radiation, a chief researcher, V. Aleksandrov, said in an interview on the

program. He also added that documents were being prepared to put the

medicine into production. 

The report included video clips of the Central Asian tortoise. (Testudo
