RE: NIMBY for Nevada residents
Some people, and not necessarily concurrently:
1. Value the environment more than they do its human stewards (but I've
noticed those people are still consumers of that environment and never
volunteer to remove themselves from it for the sake of the environment)
2. Can't see beyond their own noses, their immediate perceptions/paradigms.
Covey says we have to examine the lens through which we see the world. Most
people will end their working lives dependent on someone else for their
support--these are not exactly the kind of people who are going to exert
themselves to become well-informed beyond what they see/hear on TV from some
fashion model. Communication on this level requires the lowest common
denominator theory of human relations--communicating on a level where they
can't misunderstand (Quntilian ca. 1500 B.C.)

Subject: NIMBY for Nevada residents
NIMBY seems to be a dominant issue for Nevada with regard to Yucca
Mountain Repository. They fear that residents living there thousands of
years from now will be subjected to leakage of radioactivity.
Does anyone consider the question: what is the probability for the
progeny of a present Nevada resident living in Nevada 5000 years from
now?and what is the probability for the progeny of a present Pennsylvania
resident living in Nevada 5000 years from now? Judging by history, or
judging by current migration trends, these two probabilities would both be
very small and approximately the same. How, then, can Nevadans say it is
unjust for waste generated in the East to be buried in Nevada?
