RE: submarines and Norm

A bit off topic, but what is wrong with either word?

"Friends and colleagues", especially if of long standing, is the definition

of crony. Perhaps it has been tainted by the concept of 'cronyism'?

Ilk is an old Scottish word originally used as an third person inclusive,

especially for the landed gentry: e.g. The MacNeill and his ilk. Its

current meaning is simply 'a group of similar thinking or acting persons.'

Which again seems to fit when viewing Norm as a member of the set of

anti-nuclear activists.

I agree with the underlying message here. I object to the use of these

derogatory terms, and have warned others (off list) about their use of such

terms in other contexts. I find this whole thread distasteful in singling

out one person for focus, when the issue (a quite legitimate one) is "how

does the anti-nuclear movement view the use of nuclear power in national

defense?" Once again, I strongly urge restraint in any use of negative

personal language, but I encourage vigorous debate of controversial issues.

Your cooperation is appreciated.
