Immediate Need for Radiation Safety Technicians on Long Island, NY



Greetings,



We have immediate openings for two Radiation Safety Technicians.  The work is 

in Hicksville, Nassau County, on Long Island.  The duration of the work will 

be approximately six to seven months, scheduled to start May 28 (mobilization 

and training) and continue to the end of 2002.



The primary tasks will involve:



-  daily radiation detection instrumentation program operation and 

maintenance;



-  soil surface radiation surveys using portable gamma instrumentation;



-  soil sample collection, preparation, and shipment;



-  on-site gamma spectroscopy analysis of soil samples;



-  personnel, equipment/materials, and DOT shipping release surveys;



-  personnel and environmental monitoring (OSLDs, breathing zone air 

sampling, etc.);





Minimum requirements:



-  Associates degree in field related to health physics; NRRPT certification 

preferred.  Will consider extent of field-related experience in lieu of 

formal education/certification.



-  Available for contract work for period previously specified (5/28/02 - 

12/31/02).



-  Current in 40-hr OSHA; 8-hr refresher will be provided on-site.



-  Willing and physically capable to perform intermittent lifting and moving 

a mass of approximately 25 kg (soil sample collection).



-  Willing and physically capable to perform continuous carrying a mass of 

approximately 15 kg (Pb collimated gamma survey instrumentation).



-  Willing and capable to make independent radiological survey and safety 

decisions based on professional judgment and requirements set forth in 

applicable licenses, work plans, and operating procedures.





Preferences



-  Adequate experience in primary tasks listed above.



-  Personnel in a position to commute directly.
