National Academies Report: More Study Needed Before Utah Uranium Is Sealed or Moved

Hi all,

In case you missed it:

More Study Needed Before Utah Uranium Is Sealed or Moved

The U.S. Department of Energy should collect more data and conduct more

detailed

analyses before it decides what to do with toxic and radioactive wastes at a

former uranium mill in Moab, Utah, says a new National Academies report. The

agency is considering whether to seal up or remove a 12-million ton pile of

uranium mill tailings and contaminated soil that, according to the new

report,

will eventually come into contact with the nearby Colorado River unless

preventive measures are taken.
