RE: the Jimmy Carter Waste-of-Fuel Dump

Yes, it is an obvious sound bite,

It seems obvious to me that the article was intended not to present information, but to draw attention (and criticism) away from the fact that the current administration forced the issue on Yucca, when the previous administration took a more conservative approach to the matter (I use the word conservative in a logical sense, not a political sense).

What can a be done when an unpopular decision is made? Well, a person can look back twenty-plus years and find someone to blame from the "other" party.

As a person who respects former President Carter for his conduct and contribution to our country both in and out of office (Habitat for Humanity as one of the numerous examples) I do not think it is appropriate or fair to bash his reputation based on a decision he may or may not have made in a much different world over twenty years ago.

Regardless of how anyone feels about the facility, continuing to blame democrats (any democrat will do) for virtually anything that has a negative connotation has grown quite old. This exercise also interferes with the objective presentation of information on complex subjects.

I was also very impressed with the author's vocabulary (I use the word cognoscenti in conversation almost every day - not).

Not that I've ever heard of :-)

I didn't write it, I just passed it along for the information and amusement

value. I especially like the sound bite that I used for the subject.

Dave,

Good article. But is "zoop" a technical term in the nuclear power industry?

Wasting nuclear waste - Gordon Prather - According to Nevada Sen. Harry

Reid, allowing Yucca Mountain - known to the cognoscenti as the Jimmy Carter

Waste-of-Fuel Dump - to open for business in 2010 will make all you

SUV-driving soccer moms vulnerable to being run over by a "mobile

Chernobyl." http://www.washtimes.com/op-ed/20020717-93667426.htm
