Downwinder Compensation Program

So I'm trying to get home from NYC. The #7 train (known as the John

Rocker Express) is out of service forcing me up into the Grand Central

Terminal. I hear a man shouting "get the facts about radiation." I

was provided a US Dept of Justice form, "Radiation Exposure

Compensation Program 'Interim' Downwinders Claim Form."

On the back, is some information about public awareness and the

individual providing the information. Links are mention to a NY Times

article (2002/03/01), "Almost All in U.S. Have Been Exposed to

     Fallout, Study finds."

I ask the guy "where are downwinders in NYC." ...the following is

     paraphrased...

     Downwind from the WTC. (him)

Downwind is the NY Harbor and then the ocean. (me)

There's a school just downwind of the WTC. (him)

And what does that have to do with radiation? (me)

     They're receiving the fallout. (him)

What fallout? There was no substantial radioactive material in the

     WTC. (me)

Well, there's is some sort of contamination there. (him)

That's all I could handle during a swealtering rush hour in the NYC

subways. I have some contact information with whom I'll try and

     follow up.

     Matt Williamson

     my opinions only...
