Mike, I agree in general with what you say, but I would rather not spend my time or pay dues to an organization that rides herd on the regulators.  Maybe I am hopelessly naive, but I believe that most professionals are honest people doing an honest job, and tend to be a bit overzealous in doing it. I truly don't think that NRC, EPA, FDA, OSHA, FAA, etc need the continuous nit-picking.  The nit-picking leads to nothing so much as excessive zeal, regulatory overkill, and unnecessary expenditures.  When did one of these so-called "watchdog" organizations ever say to a regulator "You are doing a fine job ."?
