Re: Support Device

Many thanx for bringing this issue to the attention of Radsafe. It's obviously

more than a "hardware" problem.

10 CFR 50, Appendix I virtually requires nuclear utilities to spend up to $1000

to avoid 1 man-rem of dose to the public. I've heard of utility ALARA programs

that require up to $10,000 to avoid 1 man-rem of occupational exposure. EPA

guidelines would have homeowners spend huge amounts to avoid a few pCi/l of

radon daughters. How can physicians, supposedly in the business of saving

lives, have their low-paid employees receive unnecessary exposure to avoid

expenditures which I would guess are nowhere near those amounts?

That this situation exists, and health physicists seem powerless to stop it, is

a blot on our profession.

How about requiring the physicians to pay the technologists $10K for every rem

of exposure? They'd find a solution in nanoseconds.

My usual question: Where's a regulator when you need one?

The opinions expressed are strictly mine.

It's not about dose, it's about trust.

Curies forever.
