Yes, it is opinion we are talking about.  The purpose of these organizations

not withstanding, public perception of radiation has been shaped in part by

their actions.  Perhaps these are unintended consequences.



For many good folks (some of my relatives for example) the idea of NORM

seems absurd, radioactive material in the environment seems equal to

contamination, and "any amount of radiation involves some risk" (words in

quotes from our RP manual at Sandia).  I think these perceptions should be

challenged, not supported by public policy.

As with a poll, it is based on opinion and not fact.



If you look at the history of the formation of these

organizations, I do not think you will find that there

purpose was to boost public fear.
