Well that's what I get for trying not to "take up bandwidth".  Tailings sands  indeed blow all over -- we once put in to the Dolores River at the foot of a good size tailings pile at Slick Rock, CO.  However, what you see when you drive through (or walk around in) Crownpoint is not uranium tailings dust but mostly red rock. The tailings ponds at Church Rock are a different story of course.
