Authorities test radioactive materials

MINT HILL, N.C. -- Investigators are trying to figure out why someone buried a box containing radiological testing materials in a Mint Hill shed. The box was found Monday afternoon during a scavenger hunt. Inside were six vials of radiological testing materials, which were inactive, from a medical facility. 

Crews blocked off the front yard on Wilson Grove Road in Mint Hill. Firefighters dressed in protective gear scanned the box and its contents for radiation.

Medics and a bomb squad made sure that the box posed no threat to the community. They destroyed the box.
