Re: 226 Radium Inquiry

November 2, 2003

It seems to me that the radiation detection conversion factor for Ra-226

depends on the radon retention fraction which is a function of surface

binding and chemical factors. Most of the alpha, beta and gamma radiation

may come from the decay products of radon depending on its retention

factor. Hence, there is no single all purpose conversion factor for Ra-226

surface contamination.
