Doug Rokke and DU (in New Mexico)

Nov. 15

Doug Rokke has taken his depleted uranium show on the road. He was

scheduled to speak in Santa Fe, NM on Nov. 11. According to a Nov. 10

article in the Santa Fe New Mexican, he is "a former U.S. Army expert on

depleted uranium." Also: "No one doubts that the remaining [DU] munitions

and dust created during [their] incineration is radioactive, essentially

forever, but the Department of Defense maintains that the munitions pose no

risk at the exposure levels expected for either civilians or soldiers."

More: "Rokke, a Vietnam and Gulf War veteran who headed the Army research

into [DU] from 1991-1995, believes that stance [of no risk] has been

carefully crafted to ensure that the United States can field an arsenal of

technically superior weaponry despite lingering hazards."

Veterans for Peace sponsored Rokke's appearance in Santa Fe. In a

curious twist, the event began with the showing of "Friendship Village," a

documentary film or tape "about international efforts to help those

suffering from the effects of agent orange in Vietnam."
