RE: detecting medical isotopes at airport security
Unidentified radsafer.
I don't have any personal experience with medical isotopes but I know that
Canada is installing monitors at major airports. When I mentioned this to a
colleague at AECL he said "Oh no, know my Am-241 pacemaker will alarm
them!".
To all radsafers
I'm writing a report for Health Canada, who has installed the monitors,
titled "Expected Licit and Illicit Radiological Materials that may be
Encountered During Personnel Screening" and am looking for reports I can
reference. All recommendation would be most welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Subject: detecting medical isotopes at airport security
Does anyone know of incidents where residual medical isotopes in a
traveller's body set off radiation monitors at an airport? A cardiologist
mentioned to me that he had heard of Tl-201 a day or two after a cardiac
scan tripping alarms at some airports. Just curious.
