McClellan Nuclear Radiation Center (MNRC)

Academic Administrator VII - Director of the McClellan Nuclear Radiation

Center (MNRC) - The MNRC is a $30 million facility with the world's most

advanced imaging systems. The heart of the facility is a two-megawatt

research reactor of the TRIGA design. The MNRC is the highest-powered TRIGA

in the United States and has a reputation both nationally and

internationally for its innovation and expertise, developed under Department

of Defense ownership from 1990 until 1999. The MNRC is located in

Sacramento, California, at the site of the former McClellan Air Force Base.

The Director reports to the University of California, Davis Vice

Chancellor--Research. The Director has full responsibility for oversight of

the compliance of all state and federal regulations pertaining to the safe

operation and maintenance of the MNRC. The Director is responsible to the

Vice Chancellor for the fiscal accountability of the $3 million annual

operational budget and is expected to seek and secure the necessary

resources to maintain MNRC as a financially stable unit with the majority of

its funds from external sources. As chief technical expert and science

advisor for the MNRC, the Director is responsible for the development,

evaluation and oversight of its research portfolio. Requires a Ph.D. in

nuclear engineering or related physical sciences, technical competence and

certification to ensure the center's safety and growth, and the ability to

function independently to meet the commitment to be an asset to both the

research and commercial communities, as well as interface with the

regulatory bodies that govern the operation of the reactor. Applicants
