Re: Tooth Fairy Project in USA TODAY

Jan. 3

You can go to <www.radiation.org> for a link to the Mangano et. al. Tooth

Fairy Project article in Science of the Total Environment (STE). To read

it you must be registered with STE. The article is 462K in PDF. The

citation is: 317(1-3):37-51; 12-30-03; ("An unexpected rise in

Strontium-90 in U.S. deciduous teeth in the 1990s").

Mangano's co-authors are Jay Gould, Ernest Sternglass, William McDonnell,

and Janette D. Sherman. Sherman, an M.D., and Research Associate at the

Radiation and Public Health Project, is the author of Chemical Exposure and

Disease, and Life's Delicate Balance: Causes and Prevention of Breast Cancer.

In a 4-17-02 letter to the New York Times, Sherman wrote, "Many studies

have linked nuclear releases with cancer and have shown synergism with

chemicals in fine particles like cigarette smoke and diesel exhaust, which

have been found to increase the risk of cancer." According to a note

appended to her letter, Sherman is an internist and toxicologist. (The

Radiation and Public Health Project says Sherman had an "editorial" in the

Times, but it was a letter to the editor.)

The material in this posting was gleaned from an assortment of websites.
