Re: HP Liability insurance

For Health Physicists or Industrial Hygienist wanting information concerning

professional liability insurance, the following is a summary of what I

found.

Professional liability insurance that does not contain environmental

pollution exclusions, or exclusions related to ionizing radiation can be

obtained from various insurance companies. The approximate cost for a 5

million dollar policy starts around 10,000 per year. My customers,

commercial nuclear power utilities, required the 5 million dollar policy.

Just for your information, I am responsible for more than just radiation

safety so I am not going to attempt a discussion on Price Anderson Act

provisions. More reasonable annual premiums may be obtained for 3 million

dollars and down, but the 5 million dollar policy jumped quite a bit and was

not a linear scale up from the previous 3 million dollar policy. My

insurance rep chose the Quaker Company.
