Re: Mercury scam?

April 5

Thimerosal, a mercury-bearing preservative used in vaccines, appears to be

the latest mercury-related villain.

According to an LA Times article reprinted in the Albuquerque Journal

(4-2-04; p. A-6), the CDC has said if will not advise parents and doctors

to use mercury-free versions of a vaccine to prevent the flu in infants and

young children. (Ages weren't specified in the article.)

CDC executives have issued a statement saying the "available scientific

evidence has not shown thimerosal-containing vaccines to be harmful."

(Quoting the LA Times article.) The American Academy of Pediatrics backs

the CDC's position.

If you do a Googol search for "thimerosal" you can find a lot of material

about this attack on thimerosal and mercury. Claims are indeed being made

that mercury causes autism, and even that it causes heart disease. There

appear to be some problems with the studies. Searching the CDC's website

for "thimerasol" will get you approximately 300 answers.

This link is to a CDC fact sheet about mercury and vaccines, and has links

within it to more detailed articles.
