Are all 17,000 signatories scientists?  If so, the is

less than 0.2% (17K/13,050K) of the total number of

scientists and engineers in 1999.

I am certainly not going to abandon science to promote

nuclear power.  Rather, science studies show that

nuclear power will be a factor in our future energy

needs.
