Description:
The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating the safe
and compliant conduct of research and operational activities, by
providing radiological engineering and technical support services and
tools to PNNL staff and line management. The successful candidate will
assist in the planning and evaluation of radiological work, will be
responsible for the development and maintenance of radiological control
program procedures and other documentation, and will apply their
technical expertise to the continued improvement of the PNNL
Radiological Control Program. Maintenance and development of technical
competency will be required.
Minimum Requirements:
The minimum qualifications for the successful candidate will be a
Baccalaureate degree in engineering, science, or related field and at
least 5 years related experience. The following schedule defines the
general criteria that will be used to establish candidate's position:
Project ESH&Q Professional & Engineer, BS degree and 5 years related
experience. Senior ESH&Q Professional & Engineer, BS degree and 10 years
related experience. An ABHP certification or an advanced degree in a
related field is highly desirable, and may serve as a substitute for 2
years of experience.
The successful candidate must possess a strong technical expertise in
radiological engineering, as well as one or more of the following
related disciplines: radiological monitoring, portable radiation
detection instrumentation, counting laboratory instrumentation and
quality assurance, and air sampling and monitoring. Knowledge of DOE
occupational radiation protection regulations, policies, programs, and
standards is required. Broad knowledge of other radiological control
disciplines is also required, and knowledge of other Environment,
Safety, and Health requirements and hazards is highly desirable. The
successful candidate will have well-developed oral and written
communications skills, and a demonstrated proficiency in the use of a
variety of computer applications (e.g., MS Office Suite, database
applications, internet applications). The role also requires the ability
to effectively communicate with a variety of levels of staff and
management in providing effective and compliant solutions to
radiological control problems. Experience in preparation and technical
review of radiological control procedures is necessary. This candidate
must be able to qualify as a Radiological Worker II for entry into
radiological areas. Occasional hands-on work with radioactive material,
work in radiation fields, and involvement in radiological emergency
response may be required.

Note:
Placement level will be dependent upon management's assessment of the
selected candidate's skills, experience, and ability to contribute. In
order to reduce cycle time, internal and external solicitations of
