RE: Radiolabeling

i did my master of science research with a group of carnegie scientists that worked at the department of terrestrial magnatism. it was a molecular biolab in rock creek park in dc. included were such as paul doty and others of the original dna hybridization group and some of the more comtempary such as roy brittan and dave kohne. i was told that some of the others who worked on isotopes etc, after the war started to use carbon and tritium to lable and elucidated the metabolic cycles such as the famous e.coli glucose studies because there was no more work for physics and chems. that likely accounts for the number of physicists that did noble type work in molecular genetics early on. we also used a thick paperback in molecular genetics called Classic Papers or Studies in Molecular Genetics or Biology. the actual papers go as far back as mesalson and sthal, watson and crik etc. they will have references to these methods and papers there. you might also look of some of the early !

 am!

ino acid studies in E.coli and S. typhemerium from the early sixties and perhaps late fifties that would reference the original method for such labeling. authors: ed umbarger, l, s, williams and f. neidhart for leucine and histidine

Subject: Radiolabeling

I am interested in the "little history" of radiolabeling in University and

bioresearch area. Anyone have interesting reference, I would like to have an

idea of WHEN people have started to label with radioactive material.

Thanks in advance.
