Hyperthermia and radiation

Happy New Year to all!

Over the past 30 years or so there has been a great deal of resea rch delivng

into interactions of hyperthermia (heat) and ionizing radiation, especially as

they might be useful in therapeutic radiology. Literally hundreds (possibly

thousands) of papers have been published on the subject in the radiobiology and

radiotherapy literature. It is clear that increase in temperature of only a

few degrees increases the sensitivity of mammalian cells to lethal effects of

radiation.
