Hello all,

A few days ago Dr. Robert Barish informed members of
the list about a two-day symposium on radiation
shielding to be held in New York City on the 29th and
30th of September. Participating speakers are authors
of the recent NCRP Report 147 on diagnostic x-ray
shielding, and the authors of the forthcoming report
on radiotherapy shielding. These are the twin
revisions that replace NCRP Report 49, ¡°the bible¡±
of shielding design that was published almost thirty
years ago.

Dr. Barish requested that interested parties contact
my organization in a preliminary way in order for us
to generally assess the likely number of attendees and
to specifically help us in reserving an
appropriate-sized block of rooms at the hotel where
the meeting will take place.

As of today, only seven persons have indicated a need
for a hotel room.

If a significantly greater number of medical and
health physicists don¡¯t indicate a need for a room in
the next 48 hours, we will, reluctantly, be forced to
have attendees find their own accommodation, at
prevailing rates.

So if you are likely to attend, please let us know.
Also, if you want to stay in the hotel at the
symposium location, tell us that. Please send an
e-mail to the address below:

Formal registration procedures will be announced in
about two weeks time.
