Friends,
It is probably a good idea to re-examine rules of conduct every once in a
while to see if the existing ones are serving their purpose. So, here goes:
1. Personally, I do not think the list is being overwhelmed with
commercial postings and I find Sandy's news list a valuable resource.
2. On the other hand, I do believe that this list is being overwhelmed by
comments about the relevance or value (or lack of) of other posts. In my
opinion, these posts do not add anything to the list. I think this issue
goes beyond the disrespectful tone, which is currently being discussed on
another thread. Why have these kinds of posts at all? Personally, I know a
few things about physical radiation protection, but not a whole lot about
the biology. Why should I not be allowed to ask a "stupid" question about
biology, without being told (on list) that it is a stupid question?
So, to summarize: we do not need more enforcement of the "no commercial
postings" rule, but we should consider a new rule that puts an end to the
running commentary about whether a particular post was a good question or a
stupid question (regardless of the tone of the comment).
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the outgoing moderator
for doing such a great job and to thank the new guy for taking on the
challenge. One suggestion for improvement would be to strip our email
addresses out of the archives, so that they cannot be mined so easily.
Thanks,
Kai
