[ RadSafe ] X-ray Production in Power Supplies

If I remember correctly, some of the old high voltage power supplies had
high voltage tube(s) in the circuit that could generate soft X-rays. The
tubes were fairly large physically, and depending on the current could
produce a measurable dose rate. These would have been from the 70's and
80's at the latest.
Anybody else have any thoughts?

Have any of you run across any articles on, or actually measured, X-rays
being produced by power supplies, for example, an X-ray power supply? I
have
not been able to figure out how this could be possible, if it is possible.
It's a long story.
Thank you,
