So what do we do in the future when the word "physics" causes confusion
and uncertainty to the general public?

As for "dilutes the impact APS can have in representing the physics
community to the media, the government, and the public at large", does
this mean like educating the media, the government, and the public at
large to understand the American Physical Society?
