Hmmmmmm,

      Franz was asking something like what kind of lasers can send light 
large distances through the atmosphere.

      Franz, do a web search on:  Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) and/or
                                                Lunar Laser Ranging (LLR)

      for more information.

           The one laser type I saw listed for this type of work was:

            Neodymium YAG  laser .  (Pulsed & high power)


            If you ever get a chance to see an SLR laser system in operation,
      don't miss the opportunity.  It's quite a show.
