Re[3]: smoke detector overkill

          Joseph;

          Does the license of this corporate entity require that all
          ionizing smoke detectors be inventoried? Is there a
          mechanism in place that allows the proper controlling bodies
          of this corporate entity to be made aware of the procurement
          of new ionizing smoke detectors? During my past employment
          with a radioactive waste broker, the word was that as long
          as the AM stayed in the original manufactured unit it was
          acceptable for disposal in a normal landfills. Contact a few
          radioactive waste brokers, If they can dispose of it for you
          I'm sure they will be happy to take your money.

          Regards,

Sure, users of smoke detectors do not need a radioactive material license
(10 CFR parts 30-35 and 39) and don't have to worry about worker
protections (10 CFR 20), however, this still doesn't answer the question of
liability for the corportate entity who disposes of one in a landfill. The
fact may remain that what is good for a member of the general public
(wrapping in newspaper and disposing in the trash) is not applicable to
a corporation.
