I don't know about popcorn, but it sounds good.  Several of us at the 
University of Michigan used M&M candy with a group of junior high students.  
They rolled a bag out on the table, and the ones that landed M-side up were 
considered "decayed."  They could eat those, after counting them, so they 
liked the demonstration.  Popcorn would have been more dramatic, but harder to 
do in a classroom.
