Perhaps a minor consideration, but Packard currently has a better policy 
regarding the "taking back" of external standard sources.  They will do 
it at a reasonable price, whereas Beckman will only do it if a purchase 
of a new Beckman unit is involved.  Ultimate disposal of the external 
standard source is not usually something one thinks about when buying a
