The "mean glandular dose" from a mammogram is less than 300 mrad, and 
typically in the order of 150-200.

Doses for diagnostic exams fall in the category of the 'benefit far 
exceeds the risk" and therefore are not regulated. One is faced with the 
not too obvious (to the patient) explanation that the effects from such a 
dose are not measureable and no more than roughly the effects during your 
lifetime of external background radiation.

The doses, either as mean glandular dose or ESE'sfor diagnostic 
procedures, should be known for the 'typical exams'.
