"Disposal" of Radioactive Animals
Our radiation safety committee is wrestling with what to do with some
animals that are being used in some experiments. The animals that we are
getting now contain H3 at levels much higher than the 0.05 microcurie per
gram level (the amount injected is actually more like 15 uCi.gr!!)
Since New York has decided to go it alone with a disposal site and since
the procedure was sent back to zero several years ago, we may be keeping
these for a couple of half-lives! Also, our administration has not
supported our search for more space so adding freezers is not an option.
We have explored some other options but they also are not very feasable
($$$.)
We would like to know what others are doing or planning to do in this situation.
