Copy of CRPCD nomination of Greta Dicus

Last month, several people comments on the HPS's nomination of
Greta Dicus as a USNRC Commissioner. The following is (more or less)
a transcript of the nomination letter to the President (and separately
to Al Gore) from the CRCPD:

Subject: Nomination of Greta J. Dicus to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
          Commission

Dear Mr. President:

    On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Conference of
Radiation Control Program Directors, Inc. (CRCPD), we ask that you
consider the appointment of Ms. Greta J. Dicus as a Commissioner to
the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

    The CRCPD is the national organization of state and local
radiation control program directors and regulatory staff members.
Other membership includes individuals who have an interest in the
goals of the organization. Our purpose is to promote radiological
health in all aspects and phases and to encourage and promote
cooperative enforcement programs with federal agencies. The NRC
plays a vital role to this end.

    The enclosed curriculum vitae clearly shows Ms. Dicus has:

    * experience and training to serve as a Commissioner of NRC.
        In particular, she has experience in licensing and inspecting
        radioactive material users;

    * experience in implementing emergency response plans for a
        potential accident involving a nuclear power reactor;

    * a perspective, as an administrator, in applying federal
        standards at the state level.

    Ms. Dicus, Director of the Division of Radiation Control and
Emergency Management in the Arkansas Department of Health, is highly
regarded as a professional administrator and public health servant by
her peers. She is the recipient of the CRCPD Executive Board Award
for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Radiation Protection.

    We also believe Ms. Dicus has the education, experience and
respect of her peers, all of which qualify her to serve as a
Commissioner of the NRC. We offer our support of Ms. Dicus without
reservations.

    Sincerely,

    Roland G. Fletcher,
    Chairman
