Re: chemical question

Probably Uranium-238 and Thorium-232. 10CFR Part 40.13 defines unimportant
quantities of source material. If the compound is less than one-twentieth of
one percent (0.05 percent) disposal is not regualted by the NRC. However, you
might want to coordinate with the state that you reside. There are 31 states
that prohibit dispoal of any quantity of radioactive material by conventional
land fill availability...mike coogen sends

Radnetters:

I received a call from one of the chemical stores on campus regarding the
disposal of :

thorium nitrate ~1 lb
uranol (spelling?) nitrate ~600 g
uranol acetate ~700 g

does anyone know which isotopes of uranium and thorium are in these
chemicals and what their specific activity is?

thanks in advance...
