Extremity dosimetry accreditation
This is a response to Bruce Busby (8/15/95).
While present NRC regulations don't require NVLAP acccreditation for
extremity dosimetry processors used by licensees, the NVLAP accreditation
program for extremity dosimetry was only recently established (1/95). It is
presently based on the draft ANSI extremity dosimetry standard and currently
includes performance testing in multiple categories, including high energy
beta, low energy beta, uranium slab, and photon/beta mixtures.
Landauer received accreditation for its extremity dosimetry program,
including all of the above listed categories and five others, this summer.
It was the first organization to do so and is presently the only
organization having extremity dosimetry accreditation. Landauer's
accreditation covers TLD rings plus film badges and TLD badges worn on the
extremities. It is expected that the NRC will in the future extend to
extremity dosimetry its licensee requirement for use of NVLAP accredited
dosimetry processors.
