The Hazardous Material Information Exchange is a bullitin board set
up by the the Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA) of the DOT
and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Internet access is
available using TELNET and logging into hmix.dis.anl.gov. File
transfer is handled through the bullitin board. File transfer
procedures are menu driven and didn't seem too difficult. You can also log in
via modem at (708) 252-3275 using most standard communications
software.
HMIX has a technical information number which is (800)752-6367 for
everyone outside Illinois. For Illionis residents the number is
(800) 367-9592.
HMIX also publishes an information booklet (free last time I got it)
booklet number RSPA/OHMIT/95-04/July 1995.
The HMIX is devoted to distribution and exchange of information on
hazardous materials. It definitely is biased to hazmat
transportation issues, but does have information from EPA and OSHA as
well as RSPA. RSPA is the division of DOT that handles all hazardous
material transportation regulations.
