nuclear plants crash - Rio de Janiero

In response to the Rio de Janiero Fire Department

Academy request for information on fire

fighting equipment/tactics for nuclear power plants,

the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) has

various studies relative to this topic. You should

request the power plant owner to investigate the

availability of these materials.

3 documents of interest are EPRI NP-6434 "Interim

Guidelines for Protecting Fire-Fighting Personnel from

Multiple Hazards at Nuclear Plant Sites"; EPRI

TR-100854, "Doffing Procedures for Firefighters'

Turnout Gear (with 13 min. video tape) and NP-6476

"EPRI Workshop on Fire Protection in Nuclear Power

Plants".

If you would like to converse further on this topic,

respond to mcardle@yankee.com I am an Emergency

Planning Specialist involved with several US Nuclear

Power Plants, as well a Lieutentent/Emergency Medical

Technician on a municipal fire department.
