It is being transmitted on this listserver at the request of the Society to ensure wide dissemination to people who may be interested but who do not receive the publication. John Bickford, DOE Richland Operations Office Hanford Lessons Learned Coordinator ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Pearman charters Lessons Learned Society Don Pearman, associate deputy secretary for Management and champion of the DOE-wide Lessons Learned Process Improvement Team, is chartering a Lessons Learned Society to continue the successful team initiative of sharing information and contributing to continuous improvement within DOE. Chartering the society forms a bridge between the December 1995 completion of the team's work and transfer of primary management for the system to field offices, contractors and laboratories. Membership is open to representatives from each DOE facility, contractor organization and national laboratory throughout the DOE Complex. Since its formation in March 1994, the Lessons Learned Process Improvement Team has designed and implemented an easily accessible system for sharing best work practices as well as adverse experiences. The sharing program seeks to capture, share and communicate information quickly and accurately to all DOE facilities in order to prevent accidents or possible fatalities, and to promote cost savings and efficiency. At a Dec. 12-14 meeting in Washington, D.C., the current team's business will be finalized and the society formally launched. Awards will be presented to team members and those who contributed to team products. Products include an Internet information system; hard-copy "lessons" for persons without electronic access, the DOE Standard "Development of DOE Lessons Learned Programs," the handbook "Implementing U.S. Department of Energy Lessons Learned Programs," an exhibit, a videotape and fact sheets. Dick Trevillian, EH-33, and Skip Castro, FM-10, have co-chaired the team. Officers for the society will be elected to provide oversight and guidance for the DOE-wide program. Anyone with lessons-learned experience is urged to contribute. For more information, contact via e-mail Dick Trevillian, (dick.Trevillian@eh.doe.gov), Skip Castro, (manuel.castro@fm.doe.gov) or John Bickford (John_C_Bickford@RL.gov).
