ANNOUNCEMENT

                Health Physics Society Workshop on the Health Physics of
Plutonium
                                 Washington National Airport Hilton Hotel,
Washington DC
                                                         9 am to 5 pm
February 6-7, 1996

There will be a workshop on the Health Physics of Plutonium, sponsored by
the Health Physics Society, with support from the US Department of Energy,
International Health Studies Program and the Interagency Nuclear Safety
Review Panel.

The workshop will include six biomedical experts from Russia who have
extensive experience in studying the consequences of plutonium exposure in
humans.  The basic dynamics and dosimetry of plutonium will be reviewed and
new information on exposure and consequences will be presented and
discussed.  Basic dosimetric models will be reviewed as will medical
indicators of Pu exposure and long term risk of cancer.

The workshop is unclassified and open to those with an interest in this
topic.  Since the workshop is not a symposium, attendance is limited due to
the room size and the desire to maximize interchange and discussion.  There
will be a $50 registration fee payable at admission, which includes two
lunches and a copy of the proceedings, to be published as a technical
report.  A summary article is planned for possible publication in Health
Physics.  Those wishing to attend must contact Dr. Marvin Goldman IN

A block of rooms have been reserved at the Washington National Airport
Hilton Hotel, (reservations # (703)418-6800) at a US government per diem
rate of $114/night for the evenings of 2/5-6/96.  Refer to the
HPS/INSRP/TIM when making reservations.  Free hotel pickup is available at
Washington National Airport; the venue is one mile from the airport.  You
are required to make your own travel and hotel arrangements.
