C-14 Labeled Fatty Acids
Radsafers:
A graduate student here at MSU is trying to locate a source for a "standard"
that contains multiple C-14 labeled fatty acids. We've looked in a lot of
catalogs, and called most of the major manufacturers, but haven't found
anything remotely similar. One of the student's advisors swears that this
type of standard exists (and we all know that a graduate advisor could never
be wrong :>).
We are looking into making our own standard, but have only been able to
locate three fatty acids here at MSU (lauric, myristic, and palmitic).
Monetary resources are scarce, so (needless to say) purchasing the stuff
doesn't look like an option. Alternatively, I thought I'd try and tap into
the generosity that this group so often demonstrates (ok, ok, I'll lay of
the smooth talk).
If any of you folks have in surplus (as in ready to be disposed of) what
we're looking for here, we'd very much appreciate a donation. We'll pop for
all shipping and related charges. Additionally, if anyone has any viable
information about the mysterious "standard" that I described above, I'd also
appreciate hearing from you. I know this is a shot in the dark, but it's a
shot worth taking!
Here are the names of some of the C-14 labeled fatty acids we could use
(just to name a few):
Arachidonic
Docasahexaenoic
Docosapentaenoic
Docosatetraenoic
Eichosapentaenoic
Eicosatriaenoic
Erucic
Octadecatetraenoic
Octadecaenoic
Linoleic
Myristic
Oleic
Stearic
Thanks for your consideration!
